After 12 years of services, Google has finally planned to retire Google talk services for Hangouts. Hangout was released in 2013 with more features than the Google talk chat services with hope to substitute Google talk by placing it in Gmail sidebar to replace Google talk that was formally placed there, but users prefer using Google talk to Hangout.
Although this may be a bad news for those who are in love with Google talk but it is for the sake of the users. Google has planned to forcefully move G-chat users to Hangout by June 26, 2017. However, in addition to this, Google will also stop the activities of Google Talk android app and all other third party apps that are designed for Talk – this seems to be the end of Google Talk.
Fortunately, This seems not to affect users since the tech giant has several messaging services which include Allo, Duo video messenger, Hangouts, Android messages and others, which the users can move to and enjoy your chatting with friends and family.
Google messaging app updates
According to the latest post from Google, the company has also planned to remove SMS support from Hangouts and this is part of its plans to turn Hangout into a successful business messaging app to compete with other messaging apps like slack and others. The company encourages android users who are in interested in chatting to move to the new Android messaging app. As part of this, the Google+ functionality on Gmail will disappear and will be replaced with some Gmail Labs tools that are under test and it will be officially announced as Gmail Add-ons.
In addition to this upgrades, Google has also planned to stop the Google+ Hangouts API that allows developers to build applications for the previous Hangout video call apps. According to a post, the company confirmed that the action was to turn Hangout into a full business app. However, this means that all fun tools like the drawing tools, selfie masks, and other tools that are formerly on hangout will not be available anymore.
Google confirmed that Hangouts will only be used for enterprise connection which means built in apps like Dial pad, Ring central and all other apps that let users add a standard caller to Hangout will be available. However, the reason for these upgrades is that Google to clean up the messy environment in the world of Google messaging apps.
