Whatsapp is adding the handy video call to its application very soon. The feature has actually made its presence in the Whatsapp Messenger application for phones running the Android operating system. This has been made available to the beta testers under the version 2.16.80.
The video calling feature can be accessed right from the chat window, as is the norm with the other messengers. Tapping the phone icon on the top right hand corner of the Android application used to initiate a voice call to the user, but after the video call option would be made available to the user, tapping the phone icon would give the user the option to either start a video or voice call, and if selected, would start a video call to the user whose chat window is open.
Initially, the option to make video calls would be available only from inside the chat window and not from the calls menu. As of now, beta testers can only download this version from the Google Play Store. It is not available to iOS users as of now.
Other features in the works include a Call Back feature which will allow users to respond to missed calls via calling back without opening the app, and a voice mailing feature would enable the users to record their voice and send it.
