WhatsApp beats the likes of Facebook Messenger and WeChat
WhatsApp is the most popular chatting client in the world, beating the likes of Facebook Messenger and WeChat in terms of sheer monthly users. And the application is regularly updated by the company, meaning fresh additions and tweaks are constantly being introduced. WABetaInfo, a publication renowned for digging through WhatsApp beta and alpha code in an effort to find hints for future features, recently insisted it had discovered two forthcoming additions.
The outlet noted in a new beta version for WhatsApp an option was present in a thread containing multiple users called “reply privately”. Such a feature was said to be activated by highlighting a particular message in a group chat. Once the toggle has been pressed, WhatsApp will automatically open a separate chat with the specified user. However, WABetaInfo noted the addition only appears to work when group chats are closed.
Secondly, the outlet discovered a host of new emojis present in WhatsApp beta software, suggesting new expressions are forthcoming. Some of the most notable additions include an character wearing a birthday celebration hat and blowing a party horn and a blue emoji with snowflakes surrounding them. The discovered addition comes shortly after Apple recently updated its iOS operating system with new expressions.
iOS 12.1 released publicly last month and brings new characters to iPhone and iPad with some boasting curly, red and grey hair. It is worth noting when discussing the new features WABetaInfo was using an early version of WhatsApp through the Google Play Beta Programme. While this suggests such features are coming to Android, they will surely arrive for iOS platforms too.
No release date for either the new emojis or the “reply privately” tool was provided.
